Sciulli Concrete

Concrete needs to be sealed: Concrete is a porous material that readily absorbs water. In freeze-thaw climates, when water freezes and expands into ice, it can damage the surface of unsealed concrete. In order to have a long lifetime, concrete needs to have a hydrophobic seal applied to it to keep water out of its pores.
Initial seal: After Sciulli Concrete completes your concrete driveway, sidewalk, etc., we apply a product from BASF called MasterKure CC 180WB (see photo below). MasterKure both cures the concrete and provides an initial seal. This initial seal is good for approximately 1 year after application.
Yearly maintenance: Sciulli Concrete recommends that you reseal your concrete every year with MasterKure. This is exactly how we maintain our own concrete. There are more expensive options available that could potentially last two or three years, but they are significantly more expensive (even when comparing over a three year period). The best value for your money is to reseal every year with MasterKure, just like we do. If you are interested in the premium option instead, ask Tony or Dominic for more information.
Sealant vendors: MasterKure can be purchased locally at Riverside Concrete, located in Coraopolis, PA or Knickerbocker Russel Company, Inc., located on Campbell's Run Road in Robinson, PA.
Application tips: Sealing your concrete is best done in the summertime as there is usually substantial debris on the driveway in the spring/fall due to leaves, sticks, etc. The concrete is best prepared for the sealant application by pressure washing it to remove dirt. If that is not an option for you, then use a push broom. The best way to apply the sealant is with a sprayer as we demonstrate in the video below. Alternatively, it can be applied with a short-nap paint roller or lamb's wool applicator. As always, read and follow the manufacturer's directions.
